Research Your Opponent to Steal a Trade

If this guys in your league, you could probably get high-value in a trade dealing Ichiro.

Nice haircut - How about I trade you Ichiro?

While the experts talk a lot about who you should draft, who you should pick up and drop, and who you should trade for – it’s rare that they talk about the actual strategies of trading and how to get deals done.

Most of the time you’re in a league with a bunch of people you don’t know, and of course, you’re smarter than they are, you think…and they think they’re smarter than you. Everybody has their sleeper picks and their home team favorites that they want on their teams.

Here’s how you take advantage –

Take a look at who is in your league and check out their team names and see if you can get a clue as to who they like. Everybody knows that you’re not supposed to be a homer, but you can’t help want those guys from your favorite team – especially if you live in a market where you only get to watch certain teams play.

I’m not saying that you try to get Hanley Ramirez for Granderson, but you can put together a multi-player deal and Granderson is going to be a lot more appetizing in that trade then somebody from a team they could care less about.

Play to the dumb homers out there. See what you can get out of them for some of their hometown, fantasy baseball favorites. Don’t acknowledge what you’re doing or that you know who their favorite team is – just make the offer. It won’t always work, but it will definitely give you an edge. Don’t let anybody know you think they’re stupid…
