Volquez Gone Wild

I knew I cut Volquez for a reason. His overall numbers last year by the end of the season were pretty good and the potential seems to be there for a nice season this year, but he can be so wild and sporadic that I’m not sure if he’s worth it.

He’s the kind of pitcher you watch throw 10 Ks with a 2.30 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP from the bench because he lost your trust in his last start. So, his next start comes along and you feel like you can’t bench him and he does you in again.

He started out hot against the Braves and I was kicking myself, but the wheels fell off and he gave up his own lead without ever giving up a hit. Then Frenchy Francouer broke up the no-no with a solo shot and I felt good again about dumping the guy.

He might be worth holding onto, but if you’re like me and you pile up your SPs and keep a constant flow of daily matchups rolling through your lineup, then I’d just dump him. You never know who you’re going to get.
